Pampered Pooches (and People!) at the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch
On a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, my husband Sundore and I, along with our dog, Amy, drove up to the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, one of our Signature properties in Colorado. After hearing about how dog-friendly they are, we could not wait to experience it ourselves.
Tucked away on a quiet mountain side between Beaver Creek and Arrowhead about 10 minutes away from Vail, this property took our breath away as soon as we first saw a glimpse of the ”The Grand Lodge”– it’s amazing!!
We were met with a smile by the valet who took care of our car and luggage. As we walked into the warm lobby entrance, we were greeted right away by Bachelor, a massive Saint Bernard who is a resident at the hotel. He was so gentle to our dog Amy and came down to the ground, eye to eye, so Amy did not feel too overwhelmed. A little toddler thought Bachelor was a horse and climbed on his back. It was all very adorable to see and fun start of our stay.
After checking in, John gave us a quick tour, pointing out where Amy was allowed and where we could bring her to dinner. The dog-friendly area where you can also have breakfast, lunch and dinner is in the beautiful great room with a 3-story stone wood-burning fire place. And indeed during lunch I noticed a couple having a meal while their dog was happily sitting next to them on the couch, wagging its tail, wishing for a bite… Instantly I fell at home and understood why FIDO Friendly Magazine calls this hotel a “Canine Castle in the Sky.”
We checked into our suite, where Amy found her overstuffed bed which is part of the “Bachelor’s Packet.” Amy’s favorite amenity was a little stuffed Saint Bernard which she played with from the moment we arrived.
Bachelor’s Brunch and “Fido Fridays” are seasonal events at the Mountainside terrace where dog owners come together to enjoy brunch and drink specials. The treat cart is something I know that all the dogs look forward too. The resort assesses a pet cleaning fee of $125 USD for the first three nights, and a fee of $25 USD per night, thereafter. Through its “Pampered Paws for a Cause” initiative, the resort donates $25 of the fees, per stay, to the ASPCA to support the world’s less-fortunate pups.
The views from our suite were breathtaking. High-speed WiFi is available in each room, and most of the rooms have a fireplace. The plush bedding and 400 thread count linens made up for a very good night’s sleep and the super-deep marble bathtub was out of this world!
After we unpacked, it was time to go for a hike up the mountain with Amy which gave us beautiful views from the area and the hotel—I just could not stop taking pictures! This hotel is just perfect for ski lovers; the lift is right in front of the mountainside terrace where we enjoyed a nice cold beer after our hike in the November sunshine and chatted with some of the other guests.
Amy was tired from her long hike, so we let her nap while we took a dip in the heated pool and mountain view Jacuzzi–who would have thought this was possible on a November day in Colorado! In most hotels you have to buy a spa treatment to use the spa, but not here! The expansive spa facilities were great for the mind, body and soul, and great for that ultimate relaxed feeling that we all need once in a while…
When we returned to our room, Amy woke up from her beauty sleep and Sun and I got ready for a nice dinner. It was such a nice feeling to know that we did not have to leave Amy in the room again. We found a perfect spot at the window with a view of the fire pit just outside. Amy slept on her blanket right next to us while we enjoyed a romantic dinner from the Buffalo Bar. The Pesto Pasta and the Mahi Mahi tacos are delicious!
Sunday check-out was at noon, which gives everybody plenty enough time to still go for a nice hike, or enjoy the spa. I was sad to leave but so blessed at the same time that we were able to enjoy these wonderful 24 hours at the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch.
It’s great to know that through our Signature program we are able to offer our guests free breakfast for two daily, $100 resort credit per room per stay, and at time of check in a free upgrade based upon availability. The hotel also offers complimentary village-to-village transportation to Beaver Creek and Arrowhead Villages.
For guests that are looking for a high level of comfort and privacy, the Club Level is where you want to stay. The private lounge is for club level guests only and is often referred to as a hotel within a hotel. With exclusive amenities, and breakfast, light lunch, après-ski, evening hors d’oeuvre, beverages and sweets and access to a computer station, it is the perfect place to conduct business, plan a family outing, or simply unwind.
The Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch is the perfect getaway for families, ski lovers, couples who are looking for a romantic getaway and off course for those who would love to travel with their dog and have them pampered just as much as themselves! Thank you so much to the Ladies and Gentlemen who helped make our stay so special; the service was incredible in every way!
