Agent Review: Mohonk Mountain House

Where do you go for total relaxation? New York may not be the first place to come to mind… it may be one of the last! Yet a mere 90 miles from the city is an impeccable resort called Mohonk Mountain House. It has been around since 1869, and continues to be one of the most fabulous places to visit.

Mohonk Mountain House is located in New Paltz, New York. It is on a glacial lake, measuring 61 feet in depth. This 259 room hotel is a National Historic Monument, and has been owned by the same family. On the property is a 115-year-old 9-hole golf course, a Victorian hedge maze, beautifully manicured gardens, over 40 miles of biking trails and 85 miles of hiking trails.

I’ll get started explaining what all Mohonk has to offer. As an all-inclusive resort, Mohonk provides all meals. This includes the delicious outdoor Granery serving grilled burgers and freshly squeezed lemonade for lunch. Every afternoon, tea and cookies are set out in the Lake Lounge. For dinner, you have a choice of formal dining, or a more casual lobster bake (extra fee for the lobster). Also, there is a campfire twice a week serving s’mores over live music.

For the outdoor enthusiasts, an entire program is sent out daily listing everything going on. From nature hikes to rock scrambling (a mild version of rock climbing that includes climbing over and under rocks, good for all over the age of 6), and tomahawk throwing to mountain biking, you will not get bored. The Kid’s Club is also very convenient for those with children aged 2-12. They offer a morning, afternoon and evening session. Well trained counselors put parents at ease.

The newest addition to Mohonk is the spa. It has been ranked the #2 Resort Spa in the U.S. by Conde Nast Travel. This amazing spa has an indoor lap pool, 16 treatment rooms, a solarium, and an outdoor heated mineral pool.

The rooms at Mohonk are classic and beautiful. No room has a television, unless requested (there is a fee), and every room has a fireplace. You come to Mohonk to relax and enjoy yourself and family. It truly is a place you feel at home. From the amazing staff that is there for every need, to the guests that become lifelong friends.
